Ondo polls: Thousands defect to PDP in Odigbo
Thousands of members of the All Progressive Congress, Social Democratic Party, Labour Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Odigbo Local Government Area have defected to the People’s Democratic Party ahead of next month’s governorship election in Ondo State.
The defectors joined the PDP at a rally in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo local government.
They said they joined the PDP because of misrule of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
One of the defectors, Shehu Agba, said that he left the APC because Nigerians have been enslaved.
Agba alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa sent emissaries to beg him but that he declined.
He urged electorates in Odigbo to cast their votes for the PDP and its candidate, Agboola Ajayi, so he could make life bearable for them.
Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, who received the defectors promised to support the people to ensure a free and fair election.
He urged the Ondo electorates not to be afraid to protect their votes.
In his speech, Ajayi
urged the people to be pray hard for God to take the party to power during the election.
Ajayi promised that his administration would perform very well in the areas of education, health, infrastructure, employment, security, agriculture, youth and women empowerment and some other areas.
He promised to return farmlands that were forcefully taken from farmers in the locality.
Ajayi assured the crowd that the APC won’t be able to rig the election because the party was no longer popular in Ondo State.
