Ondo 2024: I will defeat Aiyedatiwa in Ilaje, says Mimiko
Governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party(ZLP) in Ondo State, Dr. Abbas Mimiko, has said that the electorates were prepared to vote him in as the next Governor of the Sunshine state.
Dr. Mimiko, who joined the governorship race because ‘the state is in troubled times,’ said he would defeat Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Ilaje local government where the Governor hails from.
He said the ZLP would secure 25 percent of votes cast in each of the 18 local government areas.
Speaking in an interview at his residence in Ondo town, Dr. Mimiko said he outlined seven Ks through which he would bring prosperity to the state.
The younger brother to former Governor Olusegun Mimiko said it was primitive idea for politicians to say it was turn of the South to produce the next governor of the state.
Dr. Mimiko said he does not share the philosophy that power must rotate among the three senatorial districts of the South, North or Central but the turn of the best candidate that would better the lots of the people to emerge.
Mimiko said he joined the race because the state was in troubled times under the All Progressives Congress adding that his programmes and policies would change the trajectroy of the narrative.
According to him, “The ZLP is strong in this state. Every local government will give us at least 25 percent of votes including Ilaje and Ese-odo where both the PDP and APC candidates come from.
He, however, said he would reintroduce the good policies and programme of the former Governor such as the free maternal care for pregnant women, free health care for children between ages zero and six, free shuttle buses for school children as well as basic free health care for senior citizens above 70 years.
According to him, “There has never been any time that there will be an election that the North or the South will not contest. Ditto when the Centra was contesting, North and South were in contention.
“What is important is to ask if this is the life we want to live in this state.
We are in troubled times in Ondo State. That is why I am running. We know we can change the lots of this state.We have programme that will change the trajectroy of this narration.
“The APC in Ondo State has nothing to offer the people. PDP has nothing to offer the people. We come with a mantra of the seven K’s of prosperity and people are marchng onto it.
“Our leaders here are clueless about what development is. That is why they are getting everything wrong. That is why the suffering in Ondo State is bigger than anywhere in Nigeria.”
