Army stop ransom payment, rescue toddler in Ondo
Troops of the 32 Brigade Nigerian Army (NA), have rescued a toddler from kidnappers’ den after spending three days in captivity.
The troops who were deployed on operation Fast Strike Squad at Forward Operating Base Auga, also captured a suspected kidnapper and an informant.
It was gathered that the arrest was carried out after troops laid ambush for the kidnappers who came out to collect ransom payment.
A statement by Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Major Irabor Njoka, said credible information was received from the locals about a family making plans to pay ransom to kidnappers around Sabon Hanya, along road Aiyere – Kabba in Ondo State.
He said a follow up operation on led to the arrest of one Mr Abubakar (aka Maude), a suspected informant stationed around Auga in Akoko South East LGA of Ondo State.
Irabor said the troops swiftly laid ambush along the route which the kidnappers prescribed for those to deliver the ransom and captured one of the kidnappers.
” Preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspect is a member of a kidnapping syndicate, placed in the area to monitor the movement and activities of troops and inform members of his syndicate accordingly.
“The suspects are presently in own custody for further interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate security agency for prosecution.
“Furthermore, the Commander 32 Brigade, Brigadier General Justin Ifeanyi, has implored the good people of Ondo State, to always avail troops with credible information on the movement and activities of criminals and unknown persons within their neighborhood, as this would enhance the capacity of troops in conducting operations with precision and further stem the tide of criminals.”
